Stephen Foo received a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1976 and his master's degree from the same in 1978.  He worked as a consulting engineer for Fugro Inc. from 1978 through 1980, and as a staff engineer for Mobil Oil Corp. from 1980 through 1986.
That year, he left Mobil and joined his family business.  In the time that followed, spanning more than three decades, Foo has owned several Asian art galleries across the United States and served as a consultant and a gallerist of Asian artifacts and antiques.  His activities have included the import and distribution of Asian arts and antiques and serving as a consultant and advisor to several major clients on their acquisition of Asian arts.
Foo, who is fluent in both English and Chinese, is also active in Chinese academic circles associated with the Imperial seals of the Qing dynasty and the study of ancient jade carvings.
His area of expertise include the imperial seals of the Qing dynasty, jade carvings, jade ornaments, cloisonne, porcelain, ivory carvings, snuff bottles, and furniture, of both the Ming and Qing dynasties.  He is also well versed in Japanese Satsuma, as well as Japanese netsuke, inro, and ojime of the Meiji and Edo periods.
Foo is an accredited member of the International Society of Appraisers, and is author to the Book: Bottles of Intricacy; the Corrigan Collection of Chinese Snuff Bottles with Leo F.
